The General Assembly is comprised of Development NGO members and it meets at least once a year to present the criteria and lines of action for the financial year—its main decision-making function. During this meeting, representatives are elected to act in the name of the organisation before various institutions.
The Territorial Meetings are comprised of provincial members representing the three governmental delegations.
The Governing Board is comprised of a small group of Development NGO representatives and it has the executive authority to see to the implementation and management of activities set forth by the General Assembly.
The work groups are comprised of Development NGO members who serve the entire organisation and focus on the following areas:
-Political incidence
We promote a high-grade Basque cooperation policy in collaboration with public institutions, political parties and other stakeholders. We do so by following up on the policy and maintaining stable relationships with key stakeholders. We also foster development policy coherence so that government or institutional actions contribute to equitable and sustainable human development and the fight against poverty and social inequality.
-Gender equality and sector strengthening
Gender mainstreaming is an integral part of organisation’s operations and we ensure the gender equality policy is fully respected. We do not only work with public institutions on matters of gender equality but also support and train Development NGOs and other social stakeholders. Furthermore, we organise activities and training sessions and take actions to strengthen the Basque cooperation sector in order to improve the quality of our interventions and broaden our impact.
-Mobilisation and education: Drivers of social transformation
We deploy campaigns and mobilisations and support initiatives launched by Development NGOs and groups. We also organise rallies and activities to denounce injustices and the causes that underpin poverty and inequality. We raise awareness about human rights; foster citizen participation and involvement to achieve a sustainable human development model, thus promoting a global citizenship committed to a culture of solidarity.
-Communication
We design communication strategies from a social transformation perspective and deploy actions with the media to communicate our positions and activities to achieve our objectives. We also use different tools such as websites, newsletters, social platforms and publications as part of our communication strategy.
The Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa delegations are responsible for implementing adopted decisions and are supported by the Technical Team. We also provide information and consulting services to Development NGOs, institutions, Basque cooperation stakeholders and citizens.
It is important to highlight the work being conducted out of Gipuzkoa and Araba as they are both undertaking specific initiatives at the local level—not deriving from HQ directives—to strengthen the presence of Development NGOs. We value promoting the work our regional teams undertake and strive to foster mutual knowledge and coordination amongst Development NGOs.
